Sep 29: Justin McDonnell sings solo and plays our own Marie Prince's prayer to St Michael as the recessional at Solemn Mass for the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel. The piece was composed by Marie in 1986 for the 100th anniversary of the prayer written by Pope Leo XIII.

Monthly Sunday Mass at St Agatha’s Cranbourne: on Sunday 3rd October, at 4 pm, there will be a Solemn Mass at St Agatha’s Church, 131 Sladen Street, Cranbourne. This Mass will be celebrated in the presence of His Lordship, Bishop Prowse. With Bishop Prowse’s support, and at the invitation of the Parish Priest of Cranbourne, Fr Andrew Wise, this Mass will inaugurate a regular EF Mass at St Agatha’s on the First Sunday of each month at 4 pm, which we will supply.
Please note: our email and web addresses have changed (although all messages and searches using the old addresses will work for a limited time). The new details are on the front of this bulletin.
Facebook invitation: The “Latin Mass Melbourne" facebook group has now been changed to “Catholic Community of Bl. John Henry Newman”. The group will be used to help promote work, activities and events happening throughout the year. Everyone is encouraged to join this facebook group and to invite their families and friends as well. It’s a wonderful way of promoting the apostolate to the wider community.
Sacred Concert with Holy Rosary – ‘Latitude 37’ performs Biber’s Rosary Sonatas at St Aloysius’, Sunday 10th October at 2.30 pm (with the recitation of the Holy Rosary). This event is designed both as an occasion of Marian devotion, and as a fundraiser for the apostolate’s needs. Those who make the requested donation ($50 for families, $20 for adults, and $15 pensioner/student concession) will enter the draw for the prize of a beautiful set of Spanish rosary beads, valued at over $ 300. Because the event is also a concert being given by a leading instrumental ensemble, it would not be a suitable for babies or small children who might be inclined to compete with the musicians!
Catholic Book Club: new members welcome, it meets 7 pm on the last Friday of each month at the Caroline Chisholm Library, Lonsdale Street in Melbourne. Call Paul on 9827 2208 or mobile: 0405 486 531.
Work projects – volunteers needed: various manual projects (eg painting, minor carpentry, carpet removal) need to be carried forward in the coming months, both in St Aloysius’ Church and Maryvale. In order to save labour costs, we would be most grateful for some volunteers to assist with one or more of these projects (which would usually be on a Saturday, though depending on availability, other days would also be possible). Anyone able to offer his services is asked to call Eamon, our secretary, on Thursday or Friday during office hours (9532 7771), or email [email protected] . Please let us know your preferred days and times, and any area of expertise or experience that might be helpful.
Christus Rex Pilgrimage: this year, the twentieth pilgrimage in honour of Christ the King will go on foot from Ballarat to Bendigo, from 29th – 31st October, concluding at Sacred Heart Cathedral Bendigo with Pontifical Mass (to be offered by Bishop Peter Elliott) at 3 pm on Sunday 31st October. If you have yet to experience the Pilgrimage, don’t miss out this year! Enquiries and on-line registration: www.crex.org.
St Aloysius’ school hall is now available every Sunday before, during and after Mass, for those needing its facilities: we are hoping this will be particularly helpful for families travelling some distance to attend Mass. We would welcome volunteers to assist with hall security, and also with welcoming people before Mass, and morning teas after Mass.
St Aloysius’ school fete – Saturday 4th December: our community has been invited to have a stall at the local school fete on Saturday 4th December. Anyone who has a suggestion (and is happy to help!) is invited to contact the Secretary on 9532 7771 (on Thursday or Friday) or via email: [email protected].
